Kenilworth Excursion to Shropshire, October 9 2004

Kenilworth Rotarians and members of the Leamington Spa Royal Air Force Association take a ride to Shropshire...

... to visit the Assault Glider Trust who are rebuilding a Horsa glider used in WW1, shown above.

Our excursion organiser Rotarian Roy Shearing in front of a Dakota being prepared for the same project ...

... and here thanking Roy Conningham, chairman of the Trust who gave a brilliant presentation on the use of gliders in the war and the reconstruction project.

We then moved on to the Wroxeter Roman Vineyard where David Millington explained why this part of England, surrounded by hills and having more sun than places further south on the continent is so good for growing grapes.

We learnt about the different grapes used at Wroxeter to make the wines ...

and were encouraged to taste them ... Rotarian Graham Tall needed no further encouragement.

David Millington enlightened us in the delights of wine tasting ...

... and the delights of local ham and turkey pie.

... a trip to the shop ...

... and the leisurely journey home ...
