May 2009 was a unique month in the history of Kenilworth Rotary. In addition to two Bank Holiday Mondays causing cancellation of the club meeting, Monday May 11th was the week of the Kenilworth Festival and the Rotary Meeting was cancelled so that members could attend Festival events. That left Monday May 18th which was postponed to the 19th so that members could spend the evening learning archery organized by Howard Burgess, our blind member who has fired arrows for the blind English team. So the club held no meeting on a club night for the whole month.
Here a bevy of members take aim, led by President Peter. The winning archer of the evening was Vice President Graham Tall.

President of Rotary International President Dong Kurn Lee addresses the 100th Rotary International Convention at Birmingham National Exhibition Centre on Sunday June 21st. When he learned that 30,000 children under the age of five die every day from preventable diseases such as pneumonia, measles, and malaria, he made his objective for the 2008-2009 Rotary Year to Make Dreams Real to allieviate the unnecessary suffering of the world’s children, through the provision of heathy drinking water, the ridding of the word of polio and other diseases and fundamental education to enable children to develop themselves. 10 million children die unnecessarily each year and the worlds’ 1.2 million Rotarians can make a difference. The conference was addressed by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. See excerpts from their speeches on you-tube! More pictures of the convention, as seen by Rotarians Graham and David Tall, are here.
