Charles Hanson
On August 12th, Speaker secretary Tony Thompson organised a real treat for us: a visit from BBC TV celebrity, Charles Hanson, to value some of our antiques (collectible objects, not Rotarians...).
Charles Hanson, of Hanson’s Auctioneers, star of Bargain Hunt on BBC speaks to the club on August 10th, assisted by Carol Jones.
Charles tells some amazing tales of exceptional antiques that sold for incredible prices
Alison and John Boothroyd listen with interest as Charles values their silver tankard.
Charles identifies it as being made in 1764, reworked in the 1880s and worth £300-£00.
Sue Tall's solitary tea cup without saucer is identified as Meissen porcelain c. 1879 worth around £35.
Carol Jones shows Sue Tall's silver tea caddy spoon made in 1805 (which Charles misreads the marks as being 1808) valued at £80-£120.
Janet Holden (right) watches with Maurice Holden and Pam Roberts as Charles values her 1885 butter dish as worth £50-£70.
Charles values an inkstand made in 1903 at £200-£300, but suggests it would be worth more without the personal inscription.
Tony Thompson, the owner, looks on, believing the inkstand to be undervalued.
The inkstand is shown around by Carol.
A staffordshire cup and saucer c.1910-1920 valued at 320.
