Paul Milton is running for the Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term for a number of conditions that affect the way a child controls their muscles and co-ordinates movement. Often, it is the result of brain damage at or around the time of birth and it can mean that simple tasks like getting dressed, walking to school or playing with friends can be hard to do.
This is where the Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy can help. Our approach focuses on finding ways to help a child move more easily by improving control of their posture, muscles and co-ordination. We provide physical, occupational and speech & language therapy that is tailored to a child’s individual needs and we encourage parents to be involved throughout the treatment process.
The Centre treats around 300 children every year and also trains therapists, medical professionals and people working in the disability sector to improve their knowledge and skills.
At the Bobath Centre we treat every child as an individual, but the aim is the same for all - to help them live life to the full. It often starts with small steps (sometimes literally), but can open the door to an independent and fulfilling life.
