For the first time, Kenilworth Rotary will organise a Tree of Light in the Town at Christmas. The first ‘Tree of Light’ was lit in Shropshire in 1995, since which time, all over the world, thousands of trees have been illuminated with millions of lights to remember loved ones during Christmas and the New Year. Six years on, the cumulative total raised is £5 million. The aim of the project world wide is to raise over £10 million for Hospice Charities. Kenilworth’s donations will be given to Myton Hospice. Your donations can be made by using the form provided here.

Bala Jaspal became the fourth lady member of the Rotary Club of Kenilworth at the club meeting on Monday November 3rd. She already knows a great deal about Rotary because her husband Paul is a long-term member of nearby Warwick Rotary Club.
Bala is the third lady member to be introduced by Rotarian Howard Burgess, whom one might conclude has an eye for the ladies, were it not that Howard is completely blind! However, Howard can read this page using the software JAWS, so the webmaster awaits his comments on how the page appears to him.

The Kenilworth Tree of Light is switched on in Talisman Square on Saturday, November 29th. Left to Right are Max Harban, President of Warwick Avon, Philip Southwell, President of Kenilworth, Sue Drew of Myton Hospice, Andrew Guest of Talisman Square and the Rev Andy Laird who presided over a short service of remembrance for loved ones commemorated by lights on the tree.

Mrs Ann Rixon is presented with the Citizen of the Year Award at the Annual Christmas meeting of the Rotary Club of Kenilworth. Congratulations from the Mayor of Kenilworth, Doug Golby and the President, Philip Southwell.

The Grocery Grab at Kenilworth and Warwick Sainsbury’s resulted in a larger total than last year. Over £1600 has been raised for charity to date thanks to the generosity of local shoppers.

The winner had the opportunity to dash around the store for two minutes to collect up to £250 of groceries on Easter Monday. Was the dash successful? Pictures are here!

At the same time as Kenilworth Rotarians were collecting for the Grocery Grab on Saturday March 3rd, along the road at Talisman Square other Kenilworth Rotarians were organizing free blood pressure tests under the Stroke Awareness programme. Meanwhile in the Day Centre, other Kenilworth Rotarians were interviewing Kenilworth citizens to organise a holiday in Blackpool.

The motto of Rotary is
SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
